Movers Shoreditch Health and Safety Policy
Movers Shoreditch is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, clients, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our removals and related services. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with home and office moves, packing, loading, transportation and unloading of goods.
We recognise our responsibilities under relevant health and safety legislation and industry guidance, and we aim to continually improve our performance through effective planning, training, supervision and review.
Our Health and Safety Commitments
We will take all reasonably practicable steps to:
Identify, assess and manage hazards associated with removals work, including lifting and carrying, working in confined areas such as stairwells, operating vehicles and handling customers possessions.
Provide and maintain safe systems of work, safe equipment and suitable personal protective equipment where required.
Ensure that our employees are competent to carry out their duties safely through appropriate information, instruction, supervision and training.
Minimise risks to clients, visitors and members of the public during all stages of a moving project, from initial survey to final delivery.
Promote a positive safety culture in which everyone is encouraged to report hazards, near misses and incidents so that we can learn and improve.
Responsibilities for Health and Safety
Overall responsibility for health and safety within Movers Shoreditch rests with the company management. They are responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented, maintained and reviewed, and that adequate resources are provided.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day implementation of safe working practices on site and on the road. This includes briefings before work begins, checking that equipment is in good condition and ensuring that staff follow agreed procedures.
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must cooperate with all safety instructions, attend relevant training, use equipment properly and report any hazards or concerns without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Prior to carrying out removals work, we will assess the risks associated with the property, access routes, parking arrangements, and the nature and volume of items to be moved. Where specific hazards are identified, we will put in place suitable control measures, such as additional staff, specialist equipment or alternative access arrangements.
We operate standard procedures for tasks such as packing, dismantling and reassembling furniture, loading and unloading vehicles, and working in multi-storey buildings. These procedures are designed to minimise manual handling risks, protect property from damage and maintain safe access and egress at all times.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key risk in the removals industry. Movers Shoreditch provides training on correct lifting and carrying techniques, team handling, route planning and use of mechanical aids. Staff are instructed not to exceed safe lifting limits and to request assistance whenever a load is awkward, heavy or unstable.
Suitable equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, moving straps, ramps, protective covers and securing devices is provided where required. All equipment is inspected regularly, and defective equipment is taken out of service until repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
We ensure that our vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition, with regular inspections and servicing. Loads are secured to prevent movement during transit and to protect both goods and vehicle occupants.
Drivers receive guidance on safe driving practices, route planning, parking, reversing and working in busy residential and commercial areas. Where possible, safe loading and unloading areas are agreed in advance with clients to reduce risks from traffic and pedestrians.
Protecting Clients and the Public
During moves, our teams take steps to minimise disruption and to maintain safe access for clients, neighbours and other building users. This may include the use of warning signs, barriers, careful placement of ramps and equipment, and coordination with building management where necessary.
We are committed to treating clients property with care, preventing trip hazards from packaging materials and tools, and maintaining clear escape routes at all times.
Training, Communication and Consultation
All new employees receive an introduction to our Health and Safety policy and procedures. Ongoing training is provided on topics such as manual handling, use of equipment, vehicle safety, working at height where applicable and emergency arrangements.
We encourage open communication about safety matters. Employees are invited to raise any concerns, suggestions or observations so we can address issues promptly and improve our approach.
Accident, Incident and Near Miss Reporting
All accidents, incidents and significant near misses must be reported to management as soon as possible. We keep records of such events and investigate them to identify root causes and any changes needed to reduce the risk of recurrence.
Where required by law, we will report specified incidents to the relevant enforcing authority and cooperate fully with any investigations or inspections.
Health, Welfare and Fitness for Work
Movers Shoreditch recognises the physical demands of removals work. We promote safe working practices that reduce strain and fatigue, including team lifting, reasonable task rotation and planned breaks on longer jobs.
Employees are expected to present themselves fit for work and not under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that could impair their ability to work safely. Any health conditions that may affect safety at work should be disclosed so that appropriate adjustments can be considered.
Emergency Procedures
Our teams are briefed on emergency procedures relevant to each site, including fire safety, evacuation routes, assembly points and contacting emergency services. Vehicles carry basic safety equipment and staff are encouraged to familiarise themselves with local arrangements when working at new locations.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety policy is monitored on an ongoing basis and formally reviewed at regular intervals, or sooner if there are significant changes in our operations or relevant legislation. Feedback from employees and clients, along with incident data and site observations, is used to improve our systems.
By following this policy, Movers Shoreditch aims to deliver professional, efficient removals services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of everyone involved.
